Online backgammon is a great way to improve your playing skills and to develop some common strategies that may help you win.  Before you play backgammon for real money it’s definitely worth exploring some of the common strategies used by amateur and professional backgammon players. In essence, backgammon is both a game of luck and skill. Very often the outcome of the first few roles will have a serious bearing on the rest of the game so it’s important to keep your backgammon strategy in mind right from the start.

The object of backgammon is to get all your checker pieces into your own inner board and then off the board all together. But you have to be strategic about how you move your backgammon pieces around the board or else you’ll get knocked out by your opponent. If you manage to role high number doubles early in the game then it is smart to start pulling your checker pieces from the backboard in sets of two so that they get closer to your inner board while staying protected in pairs.

On the other hand you may also want to try to block some of the points on your opponents home board. You must of 2 or more checkers stacked on your opponents points in order to keep him off those points. This is a great strategy for when you knock one of his points off the backgammon board. If your opponent rolls numbers that land on the points you have covered he will have to miss a turn and this can seriously delay his ability to bring all his backgammon checkers (pieces) to his home board.  Work on this strategy when you play online backgammon and you’ll find your playing skills will get considerably stronger.
